News

From the 1st of April, we will step back from providing energy through our partnership with Octopus Energy.

For the past 25 years, our mission, at Ebico, has been to support households in cutting their energy costs and carbon emissions. As part of delivering on that goal, for the past 3 years we have offered home energy supply contracts under Octopus Energy’s supply licence.

Given the widely publicised rises in wholesale energy costs in recent years, we have reviewed our strategy and concluded that the home energy supply deals we are currently offering are no longer the most effective means for advancing our social and environmental objectives. As a result, from the 1st of April, we will step back from providing energy through our partnership with Octopus Energy. As a not-for-profit social enterprise, supporting UK households cut costs and carbon remains our central purpose. Register your details to stay in touch with us and hear about the latest news from Ebico Living.

Ways to save money this winter on energy and beyond

Default Price Cap adjustment

  • Global energy costs have risen enormously in the last 12 months
  • The Government energy price cap has increased almost £58 per month for a typical home
  • Ebico Living prices will be slightly under price cap, and will rise from April 2
  • In the next few days we’ll be emailing customers individually with all details of your new prices
  • Customers on our Ebico Standard plan will continue to receive electricity from 100% renewable sources and Which? Recommended customer service

In February 2023, the energy regulator Ofgem, announced a new price cap that determines the maximum amount a supplier can charge customers on a variable tariff. The new price cap, which will apply from the 2nd of April, reflect an increase in the wholesale cost of gas which has quadrupled in the last year.

At Ebico Living we are continually working to reduce costs on behalf of our customers. As a result, we are pleased to announce that our energy plans will be priced slightly below the new Price Cap levels.

Customers on our Ebico Standard energy plan will see an increase in their energy price from the 2nd of April. We’ll be in touch with all customers affected over the next few days by email, or letter for those who’ve opted out of digital communications, with full details of the changes over the next few days.

Customers who choose to stay on our Ebico Standard plan – our standard variable tariff – will continue to receive electricity from 100% renewable sources and Which? Recommended customer service.

Unfortunately, most fixed term energy plans are currently priced in line with the actual wholesale price levels, so you’re likely to see prices much higher than the capped standard variable energy plans.

Whilst this news is not something that anyone wants to hear, with our supply partner, Octopus Energy, we are constantly looking at ways to reduce the cost of energy for our customers. Ebico and Octopus Energy join forces to make sustainable home warmth more affordable for all

  • Green energy supplier Octopus Energy announces new ‘white-label’ partnership with Ebico
  • Ebico’s initial offer to include two new 100% green energy plans
  • Partnership brings together the UK’s first not-for-profit energy company with the first energy supplier to be Which? recommended four years in a row

London, 13 April 2021: Ebico and Octopus Energy today announce a new strategic energy partnership that will make sustainable home warmth cheaper for all.

As part of the partnership, Ebico – the UK’s first not-for-profit energy company – will retain its brand and responsibility for acquiring new customers while the entech pioneer Octopus will supply energy to Ebico’s customers and provide world-class customer service.

The partnership will initially offer two new energy plans: Ebico Prime 12 Saver, designed for credit meter customers, and Ebico Prepay, for customers supplied via a prepayment meter. The electricity for both plans comes from 100% renewable sources and both deals carry no exit fees or tie-ins.

Ebico was founded 23 years ago to make sustainable home warmth affordable for low-income households. In September 2020, Ebico’s customers moved to British Gas following the latter’s acquisition of Robin Hood Energy, Ebico’s former energy supplier. The partnership with Octopus Energy will enable the non-profit to continue on its mission through the home energy supply market.

Octopus Energy is the UK’s fastest growing energy supplier, having gained 2 million customers since launching to the market less than five years ago. It is also the UK energy supplier which has received the most accolades for its customer service in 2020 and the only one to have been awarded the prestigious “Recommended Provider” status by Which? for four years in a row.

Ebico remains committed to offering customers, both old and new, appropriate and competitively priced energy plans. Importantly, in partnership with Octopus Energy, Ebico will now be able to offer customers market-leading quality of customer service and 100% green electricity.
